How to Open a Child Care Business

Kathy Moss will lead a practical workshop designed for aspiring entrepreneurs interested in starting a child care business. The session will break down the essentials of launching both in-home and center-based care, including licensing requirements, safety standards, business planning, and day-to-day operations.

 

Attendees will walk away with actionable strategies, resources, and a clearer understanding of how to build a sustainable child care business that supports families and fosters early childhood development.

Kathy Moss

Kathy has devoted her career to early childhood education, beginning as a preschool teacher after earning her degree in Elementary and Special Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College. She advanced into leadership roles including Center Director, Education Coordinator, and Head Start Director, where she oversaw nearly 400 children and supported 100 staff across seven centers. With a master’s degree in Multicultural Education from Iona College, she combined her classroom expertise with a passion for professional development and training. For over 16 years, Kathy has also led her own consulting business, serving as a Mentor Coach, Trainer, and Early Head Start Start-Up Planner while contributing to statewide initiatives like the Pyramid Model Professional Development Network. She now works as a Quality Improvement Specialist with QUALITYstarsNY, helping child care programs strengthen services for children, families, and educators.
