Indian Point
Aiding affected business from the closure of IPNPP
To counter the impact of the closure of IPNPP, the Lower Hudson Valley SBDC will educate existing
businesses in the affected area to help them reimagine themselves and train entrepreneurs to deliver services in new ways and on SBA programs focusing on MWBE’s.
Re-imagine: The businesses that were impacted will be taught and trained to deliver their services in new ways and to expand their market via technology. Leveraging LHVSBDC relationship with online services, these businesses will be trained to sell online, learn new delivery methods, create virtual store fronts and expose them to the growing logistics opportunities in the area.
Gig Economy: In the new economy, using technology, anyone can be an entrepreneur. The migration up north from NYC has created numerous opportunities for solo entrepreneurs; ie. dog walkers, nannies, food service, house cleaners, personal shoppers, tourism, etc. The LHVSBDC will teach entrepreneurs and existing businesses how to use apps in the most effective way possible. At least 59 million American adults participated in the gig economy in 2020, equating to roughly 36% of the U.S. workforce.
Re-position: Numerous opportunities exist to be a sub-contractor to larger more well capitalized businesses. Industries such as tourism, clean energy, construction, and bioscience are thriving in Westchester and the surrounding areas. These industries are actively looking for qualified MWBE and local subcontractors.
Social Media: The LHVSBDC will train clients on how to get the word out about their business, best online advertising practices, picture taking, and what works and what doesn’t work in social media.
SBA Products & Services: All clients will be educated in the products and services offered by the SBA. The LHVSBDC has extensive and deep relationships with leading SBA lenders and CDFI’s throughout the region.
